Scott Murtha’s interest in fitness started in grade school.
He joined a martial arts studio, and began lifting weights and running
to build his strength and endurance in the martial arts. He joined
the Marine Corps, and consistently obtained near perfect physical
fitness test scores in each of his 9 years in the Corps. While in
college, he trained in power-lifting, and later spent several years
as an amateur boxer and Muay-Thai kick-boxer. He’s held a
wide range of certifications over time, some of which are: personal
trainer, cardio-kickboxing instructor, spin/cycling, and two black
belts. He created and led a YMCA 8-week “Boot Camp Fitness”
class based upon parts of Marine Corps boot camp fitness. He’s
a former martial arts instructor at Kang’s Tae Kwon Do and
Apollo’s Karate.
In addition to his work in fitness, Scott works in the Information Technology
field at the Tulsa corporate headquarters for a worldwide rental
car company, and he co-owns Murtha Homes, a home remodeling and
resale business.
Scott endorses the principles of low-force, high intensity workout programs
as promoted by Arthur Jones and the late Mike Mentzer in his Heavy
Duty training program. He believes total fitness is achieved through
a combination of weight training, aerobic training, nutrition, functional
training and goal setting. He understands the challenges of balancing
a fitness plan with career and family activities, and he specializes
in helping busy people make a realistic fitness plan that works
for them.
“Every day we have a choice. We can choose to let life happen to us. Or
we can choose to make life happen for us.”
